Get Ready for the Fall Book Sale

Since 2017, the West Bend Library has staged a book sale every autumn. It just seems like the right time of year to stock up on new books to cozy up with. But where do these books come from? And where does the money go?

Fortunately, both answers are pretty simple. The vast majority of our book sale offerings come from donations. Whether you're downsizing, looking to get rid of a book someone who really does not understand your taste gave you for your birthday, or moving and you don't want to worry about all those books, you're in good hands. The West Bend Library welcomes donations of materials in good condition. All donations become the property of the library, and the library reserves the right to utilize donated materials in whatever way best benefits the collection and services of the West Bend Library. Your donated book may be added to the collection for other folks to check out and take home; another possibility is the item will be sold, with the proceeds going toward library programs.

That's where the second question comes in. Funds from book sold at the Fall Book Sale are added directly to the library's adult collections and programming. We've had some great programs this year - including yoga, Crafting Saturdays, movie screenings, guest speakers, and more, with even more awesome events yet to come - and we rely in part on book sales to generate the money to buy craft supplies and compensate presenters.

How can you help? The library will take donations of gently used adult fiction and nonfiction books for the sale until the day before the sale starts. You can drop these donations off at the Circulation Desk. Donations will be accepted until Wednesday, September 25. All donations to the West Bend Library are tax deductible. You can expect to find a wide variety of items at the Fall Book Sale. "Adult fiction and nonfiction" may not sound like a lot, but we have hardcovers, paperbacks, and audiobooks on almost as many subjects, and in almost as many genres, as we carry for checkout on our shelves. This can be a great way to keep your personal collection fresh, or to stock up on holiday gifts early.
