Terika - Tale of Magic by Chris Colfer (2020)
Enjoy a new series from the author of the best- selling Land of Stories author. When Brystal stumbles across a secret section of the library, she discovers a book that introduces her to a world beyond her imagination and learns the impossible: she is a fairy capable of magic! However, in the oppressive Southern Kingdom, women are forbidden from reading and magic is outlawed.
Hannah - The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker (2013)
Chava is a golem who finds herself adrift when her master dies on the way to a new life. Ahmad is a jinni trapped in a copper flask, accidentally released in New York City in 1899. The two mystical beings cross paths and become friends in this magical immigrant story that weaves Yiddish and Middle Eastern folklore into a refreshing, American tale. The author JUST announced that she turned in the first draft of the sequel!
Marnie - Llama Unleashes the Alpacalypse by Jonathan Stutzman (2020 children’s book)
The Llama in this book loves baking and eating, but does not like cleaning. Without giving away the ending, he invents a cloning machine to clone his friend, Alpaca, who loves to clean. He clones Alpaca and Llama’s house becomes filled with cleaning alpacas who end up making more mess then they can clean up. Llama then releases the Alpacas to the world outside. There is a lot more to the story, but you will have to check out the book to find out. (P.S. Marnie has four alpacas at home, and they do not help with the cleaning at all).
Emily - Final Girls by Riley Sager (2017)
This book is for folks who like their mysteries a bit scary. Quincy Carpenter cannot remember the details of what happened the night her friends were viciously murdered and she survived unscathed...that is, until she gets help from a new friend. You will be shocked to find out who the murderer is.
Sara - Sex and Vanity by Kevin Kwan (2020)
The author of Crazy Rich Asians returns with the dazzling tale of a young woman who finds herself torn between two men: the WASPY fiancé of her family's dreams and George Zao, the man she is desperately trying to avoid falling in love with. Kwan has a way of describing scenes that makes the reader want to join the characters in their adventures. It is a fun and very entertaining adult read.
Mara – True Comfort: More than 100 Cozy Recipes Free of Gluten and Refined Sugar by Kristin Cavallari (2020)
The gorgeous book is filled with the author’s favorite recipes for cozy breakfasts, lunches, dinners, desserts, and drinks. You will find recipes for Overnight Oats, Butternut Squash and Leek Chowder, Orange Olive Oil Cake, and Cashew Eggnog, just to name a few….and she does not use crazy ingredients that you can only find at a specialty store.
Susan – The Book of Two Ways by Jodi Picoult (2020)
In her newest novel, Picoult weaves a tapestry about life, choices, and the curiosity we feel when we look back and wonder if the choices we made were ultimately the right ones. Do we settle into our choices without looking back? Or do we always wonder if we could have chosen better? The reader goes from archeological sites in Egypt fifteen years ago to present-day Boston, back and forth. Reviews say it is beautifully written and very thought- provoking, and I am anxiously awaiting for my turn on the hold list.
Ryan - Demon King: A Novel of Horror and Supernatural Suspense by Erik Henry Vick (2018)
This book is scary. It involves a demon attack on the on a small town, then picks up 28 years later with the survivors. We have access to the E-audiobook.
