Rescue Readers

Sign up your independently reading age child for a 20-minute time slot & read to our furry feline friends! This program is held at the Washington County Humane Society & requires registration and a permission slip. Register by visiting or calling the West Bend Library at 262-335-5151. Permission slips are available at the library.

Benefits of reading to animals:

  • They don’t judge & can help encourage hesitant readers to practice & gain confidence!
  • Reading aloud to animals improves literacy skills & has a positive effect on attitudes about reading
  • And it helps socialize shelter cats!
