For September, we're discussing Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, going over strategies and resources for suicide prevention, and screening the first episode of the online streaming adaptation.
This book and its screen adaptation contain scenes some readers and viewers may find disturbing, including graphic depictions of sexual assault, substance abuse, and suicide. A trained crisis responder will be on-site at the event to help process emotions and provide support.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Resources shared at this event will be made available online and elsewhere in the library for those who cannot attend.
Our teen book club meets once a month to discuss a book we've chosen. If there's a film or television adaptation, we like to screen it; if there isn't one, we'll make a craft that's somehow related to the book.
